The Gentex Full Display Mirror (FDM®), is the industry's first hybrid intelligent rear-vision system that uses a custom camera and mirror-integrated video display to optimize a vehicle’s rearward view.
The system captures video from a rearward-facing camera and streams it to a unique mirror-integrated LCD that provides the driver with an unobstructed, panoramic view behind the vehicle.
The mirror features bi-modal functionality. In mirror mode, the product functions as a standard rearview mirror, but with the flip of a lever, the mirror enters display mode, and a clear, bright, LCD display appears through the mirror’s reflective surface, providing a wide, unobstructed rearward view.
Gentex has over four decades of light sensor and digital vision expertise, including imager development, PCB layout, software design, camera fabrication and clean room manufacturing. Our cameras solutions are customized to meet each OEM’s unique specifications. Gentex provides complete vision solutions that optimize the FDM display, imager, camera design and packaging, vehicle integration, and video software/processing.
Multiple consumer research studies show:
- FDM provides a wider field-of-view
- The ability to switch between mirror mode and display mode is favored
- Drivers adjust to the display very quickly, even with the use of bifocal or progressive lenses
- High satisfaction with display quality
- The system is very easy to use
